Paris Spring Couture Week!

February 2, 2010

Last week, the high fashion houses of Paris indulged us with their Spring 2010 Couture collections! The fabulous fashion, of course, was the highlight of the week, but it was interesting to see what beauty themes emerged from the creative minds at Christian Dior, Chanel, and Jean Paul Gaultier…

Monday, 1/25/10: Christian Dior

The house of Dior went for ultra-luxe, creating fashions inspired by the elite of the past–think Versailles meets Buckingham Palace meets 1930s Hollywood. Voluminous fabrics were paired with enormous jewels; and big hair was paired with dramatic, almost kabuki-like makeup. Red lips were dominant at the Dior show, with a rare nude glossy lip appearing on the runway. For the eyes, makeup artists went for big and bright, using bright purples and greens and wingy eyeliner.

Tuesday, 1/26/10: Chanel

Chanel unveiled the sweetest collection they’ve ever created–without a trace of black or navy! Karl Lagerfield said he was inpsired by “neon baroque,” pairing soft colors and fabrics with high shine accessories. The models’ coifs were made up like giant sweethearts, embellished with fluffy flowers and ribbons. As for the makeup, it was kept simple and pretty, with light smoky eyes and matte pink lips.

Wednesday, 1/27/10: Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier admitted to being inspired by “Avatar” for his Spring 2010 collection, noting influences from nature and from Latin America. The models wore their hair in sleek, beautiful braids, and their makeup was earthy-toned, with green, blue, coral, and brown eyeshadow paired with nude lips.
