Grammy Awards 2010: Hits and Misses

February 1, 2010

February 1st! It’s the start of a new month–and not just any month, but possibly the most hopelessly romantic month of them all, thanks to a special holiday in two weeks time. Whether you’re happily in love or sassy-and-single, BeFlurt can help transform any girl into a goddess, for less. We’ll be showcasing a few Valentine’s Day looks in the next couple weeks, so stay tuned!

But, today we continue the awards season roundup. Last night’s Grammy Awards were totally entertaining, and possibly way more fun for us home viewers than those TV/film awards shows. I mean, the film industry is unfailingly glamorous, but musicians have the guts to bring on the funk!

This year’s Grammy Awards show was definitely ladies’ night, which gave us many diva-licious looks on the red carpet. Some trends from the previous awards shows popped up, like the natural glow on Fergie and Miley Cyrus.

Also spotted on the red carpet were frosty eyeshadow, out-there lashes, and bubblegum pink lips! My favorite beauties included Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Jennifer Hudson.

Of course, the Grammys wouldn’t be the same without someone in a deliciously outrageous getup! And of course, we look no further than the queen of the avant-garde, Lady Gaga!

I’m sure you’ve all seen the footage of her grand entrance, in her galactic Armani gown, but let’s just focus on her equally far-out hair and makeup! Her blond and bright yellow hair (wig?) harshly contrasted with her pale skin, dark smoky eyeshadow, thick eyelashes, strongly accented eyebrows, and neon pink lipstick. Everything about her look was exaggerated and would have put anyone else in serious shame. But we wouldn’t have expected anything less from Lady Gaga!

But there is a distinct line between being delightfully tacky and, well, just plain tacky. For me, Ke$ha‘s look was in terrible taste.

She called it “garbage chic.” I don’t know where the chic is at all in this look, but she succeeded in looking trashy!

However, I don’t want to close this post on a sour note. Besides the red carpet, the Grammys had some amazing performances! My favorites were P!nk’s high flying acrobatic routine (major props for singing while spinning several feet above the audience!), Beyonce’s powerful “If I Were A Boy/You Oughta Know” mash-up, and of course, Lady Gaga’s electric opening with none other than Sir Elton John!

I could go on and on, but alas… there really isn’t time to recap everything I loved about last night. Needless to say, if you didn’t see the Grammy’s yourself, you missed out on some great fun!
